Henrik Larsson!!!!
Yes this blog entry's gonna be about football and Henrik Larsson. Before you start going "Henrik who?", here's some information on this Swedish legend (more info at:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrik_Larsson). Firstly, he's one of Sweden's biggest/best players, having played for several years with Celtic and then later on with Barcelona. He also played for Manchester United where he was on loan until quite recently. Man U was going to extend his loan but he turned em down to play for his hometown club. Phew, lucky for us.

Yes we know this isn't the real Henrik :)

Jonas had this great idea of an early birthday treat for Arlin and he went and got us tickets to watch a football match. So yesterday, we went to an Allsvenskan (Swedish Premiere League) match at Helsingborg's Olympia stadium to watch Helsingborg IF play against Örebro SK. And although Arlin's not a huge soccer fan, we were all really excited and we're still excited cause we got to see HENRIK LARSSON live in action!!!

Our entry tickets.

Olympia stadium

The starting line-up.

It was such a great experience! There was cheering all the time, like you see on TV. Haha half the time Arlin forgot there was a match going on cause she was so fascinated by the supporters who were singing their hearts out the whole time.

The home team's supporters

The away team's supporters - all 5 of them!

Henrik Larsson in action!

And more Henrik Larsson (or Henke as he's known here)

Our team has just scored a goal here. The spectators are jubilating and that guy in the corner's dancing

Henrik and team-mates

The boys celebrating after a goal

Boy in front of us throwing streamers to celebrate Helsingborgs victory

And we were the lucky ones who got to watch it all!

And here's a video Arlin took. It's thrilling to watch and hear all the Swedish vikings cheering and singing!

And the best thing was that Helsingborg won 4-1 so we were jumping up and down a whole lot. Henrik Larsson scored a goal and created chances for all the other 3 goals. Arlin, Jonas and I were also dressed in Helsingborg's colours of red and blue. I think from now on I'm going to be a Helsingborg fan! :) Thanks again Jonas for bringing us to the game and Happy Birthday in advance Arlin girl. It was great having you here and watching the game (and the other stuff) with you. :) I still can't believe we were so close to Henrik Larsson and I even heard him shout at one point!

Girlie Ice Cream.

We read about ice-cream reviews in the newspapers the other day so we got some last night on our way home. And Jonas stopped at Preem!!! Yay! Heheh that's my favourite gas station...obviously because its cute. Damn we should have Preem in Singapore! Then perhaps I might be more motivated to drive. :p

Cute kan the bear?? Hehe I get so happy whenever we drive past a Preem. :))

So Jonas got his Daim ice-cream and Nene got her Magnum Almond..and we found the ice-cream we read about for me! Its called 'GIRLIE'. Heheh...I can't believe i'm still such a sucker for crap like that...but it was realllly good. It was more gelato than ice-cream I thought...and it tasted a bit like Sugus candy too! Mmm...and I don't even usually like ice-cream all that much. And the best part is that there's glitter in the stick! Check out the pics :)

Me and my Girlie ice cream.

Nene stole mine too!

Check out the glitter!

Ice cream sisters :)

Exercise!

Since we've been eating so much...we figured we should at least pretend to be a little healthy so the three of us went out for a run the other day...heheh..we did that in the evening at around 11pm so no one would see us.....and it was also probably 10 degrees outside and Nene of course looked absolutely fashionable in those tights! :D

Haha I just love my pink socks.

Food part II

This being the first time Arlin's experiencing a Swedish summer (despite having been here numerous times :p), we had to barbecue of course. Takde barbecue during the summer tak sah. We marinated the chicken like 2 days before and tried out all kinds of different spices.

Barbecue preparations.

Arlin on the phone with Johanna.

While I was doing all the work, look who's standing around looking all pretty? :p Nolah just kidding. She did most of the work. :)

Here's all the food we grilled. Chicken, chicken kebabs and sliced herbed potatoes in that alumium foil pocket. Arlin even used the spices we bought in Copenhagen and it was really delicious.

The expert grill chefs. Haha yeah very expert. The food kept rolling off the grill and the skewers burnt.

The smokey sisters. :)

Hard at work. Barbecuing is so leceh eh? And it takes forever and you have to stand there and keep turning the stuff around all the time.

Oh and here's the head chef, supervising the grilling :p

But in the end it's all worth it. Everything was really yummy and we ate and ate and ate. Mmmmm....

Oh yeah Hathairat was also here in the morning a few days ago. I've mentioned her before. She's a colleague and a good friend.

We had brunch at home before we drove to work together.

Damn now I'm seriously hungry. Again. Gonna go raid the kitchen. I want to eat Ba's bbq chicken! Nak!

"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well" ~Virginia Woolf

How true. Which is why we've been cooking up a storm and eating a whole lot. It'd be weird if we met up and didn't blog about FOOD.

Well first Arlin made her famous chicken chops which I wrote about the last time. I'm still pissed that I forgot to take a pic. And then the day after that I made this meatpie thing. It didn't taste bad and we ate up the whole thing.

We got the recipe from this book. Well I didn't really follow the recipe, used it more as a guideline. I think it's Johanna's recipe book.

And here's the pie! Looks pretty eh?

Ohh and here's my learner's plate in Swedish. Now I just have to go out and do the actual driving. And that's my driving instructor ;)

Oh and Ar and me made cookies! We were looking through my recipe books and I had this one book called "Sju sorters kakor" which Anna-Karin bought me and Arlin started craving for one of the cookies so we had to make it of course.

This is the book. The title in English is 7 types of cookies.

And these are the cookies we made. Chocolate cigars! With hazelnut and chocolate. Yum. We've eaten them all up. :( Ma, can make these for Hari Raya maybe.

All this talk of food's making me hungry. Gonna go grab a bite with mah sista now. Write more later!

Aslan's Mohawk!

Haha...Aslan's been my best buddy since I've been here. He has become so kaypoh now...such a different cat since I last saw him. He accompanies me in the afternoons when everyone else is out. Hehe he probably hates me for doing it but I absolutely love styling his fur. But he's lucky I spared him the hairclips this time! He doesn't like being photographed...but I did manage a few sneaky snapshots of him. :D

See he always turns away when he sees me with the camera!

That's me playing hide and seek with him :D

Hehe look at how snotty and snobbish he looks. But he is absolutely fantastic, my purrfect cat! (hint hint..)

Meow.

Denmark

We went to Copenhagen today and walked around a little. Since we're always cooking and eating..(well Nene does most of the cooking, I just eat :D), we ended up getting some spices and I even got a recipe book! I think I might start a collection of foreign recipe books :)

Spices

Fly Me To The Moon

Picture was taken from Nene's backyard.

Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words hold my hand
In other words darling kiss me

Fill my life with song
And let me sing forevermore
You are all I hope for
All I worship and adore
In other words please be true
In other words I love you.

Arlin's here!

Yay yay yay yay! One of my sister's here! I wish you were here too Arnee. Then all 3 sisters will be together kan. But Insyallah we will be able to do that soon. We'll it's great having Arlin here of course. And the funny thing is that we didn't feel weird when we first met. Yep the last few times she was here, it was always a bit strange at first. Not awkward or anything but like...I don't know...it's hard to explain. But there was none of that at all this time. Because this Arlin lah, go Sweden like from Singapore go Johor like that. It's great though cause we've been doing loads of stuff, talking loads and even fighting a bit like we used to. :)

Hmm what have we been up to? Well Ar's blogged a bit about that already. We sat outside in the sun and played with Aslan and we were in Lund yesterday. Ohh we saw this and had to take a pic cause it's our sign!!

EU, United Nations, Sweden, Lund!

And we shopped a little bit and then ended up shopping most at the supermarket of course. Arlin's favourite hangout :). Ohh! We also discovered an Asian store in Lund. I can't believe that I've been there a million times and have missed it all this while. They had papadums and popiah skin and all kinds of other stuff! Too bad they didn't have Maggi noodles though :( And then we finally had falafel too. We sat down in the central square and ate and then suddenly there was a lot of commotion and turns out there was some kinda procession/demonstration thingy taking place right there.

It was school kids marching demonstrating for integration and multiculturalism and stuff like that.

Girl and dog demonstrating

Everyone dressed up for the occasion too although I don't know which culture this girl's supposed to represent.

Me sharing the falafel with Ar. It was actually really yummy.

Candid shot of Ar!

We also bumped into Hassan when we were at Botulfsplatsen. I used to work with him.

Ohh and we've been cooking a bit too. Arlin cooked for me yesterday! Her chicken chops! Yum yum yum! Have missed that like crazy. Sedap giler! I forgot to take a pic though. Aiyah. :(

Well that's all from me for now. I'll pass the puter to Arlin. Oh and Arnee girl, don't forget to blog okay? Love to Ma, Ba, Ar and everyone!

All the small things....

Its funny how being in Europe or Scandinavia...well all these matsaleh lands..that you start appreciating the little things...things that you would usually take for granted..or really don't even think about when you're at home. Like seeing a fellow Malay person in the street. That happened yesterday when I was out shopping with Nene..and we saw one of her students with her dad...and it was weird but nice at the same time seeing them. It was a little hard though..suddenly having to speak in your own mother tongue formally! And being far away from home also really makes you start embracing your own culture and language a whole lot more....heheh hey we've been listening to Flop Poppy a LOT! :D

This is the current book that I'm reading..and Mommy, you should be real proud of me :D

Another thing is also getting all excited about the Sun. Hehe...yes, very jakun. As though Singapore takde matahari. :p I would normally avoid the sun at all costs...however I get all happy when its warm and sunny outside...and I've been spending hours just sitting out and working on a tan. :)

Haha...Nene and Ducky tanning!

Here's what we had for lunch. Salad of rocket, spinach etc with potato salad and breaded fish. Mmm. :)

Me standing under a tree. Bleh.

Nene feeding the birds and Aslan just chillin.

Hej då for now!

Hej från Sverige!

Hm...sorry I haven't really had that much time to blog cause I have been travelling a little. Its been an intense couple of weeks but its all good :D I flew from Ams to Cph last week and here I am at Nene's place again. Whee!

Its been fun so far...just chillin out with Nene and Aslan and Jonas. Weather is lovely here cause its spring and for the first time I can walk around in slippers and sit outside in the garden!! The past few times I was in Sweden...it was bloody cold and snowy. Ugh.

Having breakfast in Nene's front yard.

Ahh...coffee.

My favourite tree. Remember the pic Nene uploaded which I took last Autumn when I was here? This is the same tree...picture was taken close to sunset...this is how it looks like in Spring...so pretty!

Anyway I'm too tired and sleepy to write too much now but I'll include a few piccies for everyone at home to see. Love you and miss you Mommy, Ba and Arnee!

Boter Koek

I made this a few weeks back when I was still at home but somehow I never got around to blogging about it. Perhaps I didn't think it was that impressive. After all, it was from a box. But since I did take pictures of it, figured I should just post them here anyway. I was dead excited when I found it though...hehe obviously because its Dutch! :D

happy belated birthday jonas!
and happy belated birthday althea!
yesterday i went to tria's birthday party..tria is althea by the way. and it was like sooo damn fun. when i first came they were just like stoning...then...we started spraying that crazy stringgy thing all over the place. and mei yee sprayed it in my hair!!!!! idiot! but i got sweet revenge. cause i sprayed her back! then we wanted to play pool but the security guard person said it was fully booked and he told us we could play at 5. so then we went to the play ground and we played on the swings. and then two little korean boys came and they wanted to play on the swings. so we let them. cause we pitied them. but that was a bigggg mistake. cause they played for about 15 minutes and we asked them if we could play again and they were like NO! and we started quarrelling. k maybe its a bit childish to fight with people that are about 7 or 8 but we really wanted to play on the swings. in the end...audrey got them off the swings and we started playing again. then i got bored so i went to the slide and i laid there. all alone. so then audrey came and she laid down beside me and kay xi came. and the thing is that all 3 of us were having our mens. so i said that the slide was for people having mens only and blah blah blah. so then there were 2 boys called joseph and thomas and they were really really cute! and lili was like following them around. then i followed them too and i played with joseph. i think. i get mixed up. thomas was 2 and joseph was 4. or the other way round. lol. and i took a picture of joseph. or thomas. again. i forget.

so cute right?? then we played tag. cause he didn't know what catching was. lol. same thing. but anyway i didn't understand him cause he had that british accent. cause he's from england. and he told me everything about where he lived and all. like i could really understand. lol. and after that he was like almost crying when we said we had to go. it was going to rain anyway. so then it was about 5 so we went to the billiards place to ask the security guard if we could play. and he said it was booked! can you believe it?! we booked it first. he told us to play at that time and he let some other cuckoo play! i think he was just making it up to not let us play. so mean. well anyway then shannon, mei yee, lili, kay xi and heather went home. so we played in tria's room. then ronald, tria's neighbour came and we played truth or dare. and it always pointed at him. so we asked him who he liked in the room and he said 'Y'!!! lol. he likes Y! i won't say the girl's name cause i'll embarress her. and i'm being a nice friend. haha. and ronald asked for Y's number. aww!!! then we ate canadian pizza and then the party ended. and i went home at like about....11.30 plus...hahaha...lol. anyway..sorry for the long long long post and happy birthday to althea and jonas.

Happy Birthday Jonas!

Yep he turns 28, or turned rather. It was his birthday yesterday. We didn't have a party or anything. Just woke him up with breakfast in bed and then after work, we went to watch Spiderman 3 and then after that we had some cake. I hope you enjoyed your birthday Jonas. I wish we could have done more to celebrate but hope you're happy anyway. I pray that you have lots more birthdays to come and that your life is full of happiness, love, prosperity, good health and all good things. Amin!

And here's the cake I made for Jonas! It's an oreo's cheesecake which I topped with cocoa powder and white chocolate swirls.

Love you Jonas! Love my sisters! Love my Ma and Ba!

Lots of love,

Nene

Japanese!

I had such a craving for Japanese food since yesterday night that I looked up recipes online and today I made my own doriyaki/tokiwado or whatever they're called...you know those Japanese pancake thingies with filling. Well I used this pan we got from Jonas' parents where you can make 7 mini pancakes all at once and put two and two together with chocolate in some and cheese in the rest (that laughing cow cheese). It turned out really good! The first few were kinda pretty even and tasted almost like the ones I used to buy back home! Yummy!

And for dinner I made Okonomiyaki, these Japanese pancake/pizza thingies with cabbage and other stuff. It's easier to show the pics than explain.

Here's the batter (I mixed cabbage and carrots with flour and eggs) and some chicken frying in a pan.

And this is what it looks like when it's done! I made the sauce myself and then topped it with mayonnaise. The only thing it lacked was the bonito fish flakes.

Close-up of my very own okonomiyaki. Hai!

Gardening

Yep that's what I've been up to. Now the lawn looks neat and tidy and all the twigs and branches which I dumped outside after cutting the tree are finally gone. I've even been tidying up the roses, cutting down all the dead branches and neatening up the plants. And I've been pulling up weeds too. Now all I need to do is fix the backyard, clean and arrange the outdoor furniture and get some flowers to plant and we're all set. Haven't taken any pictures though cause once again, the batteries need recharging. I'll just take pics when I'm done with everything. Hope I'll stay in this mood and not just forget about everything and get all lazy. :)

I've been thinking up recipes in my head again. I think once I've fixed everything outside, we're probably going to do some barbecuing! Whee! Oh and I received a gift voucher too as a belated birthday present so I'm definitely gonna do some shopping. Double whee!

But now I have to go to bed cause it's an early day tomorrow. Write more later...
