I'm back!
Hey sisters,
Sorry I haven't been blogging....hehe but well at least i've been away...so I sorta have a valid reason....what's Arnee's excuse? :p
So yeah I just got home...still tired and sleepy...trip was okay....I think. I'm too woozy right now to write too much...but I did have fun in Neverneverland..hehe :p....I met up with my friend Syed...and that was nice. I haven't seen him for almost a whole year since he moved...and I really did have a lot of fun catching up with him...and shopping too! :))
Schiphol Airport...first thing I noticed was the sky when I got there..and I thought it was really cantik..unfortunately the pic's a bit blurry though..

Me and Syed somewhere in Rotterdam.
I loved his kitchen! :)

Somewhere in Amsterdam...having a kroket....lekker!!

I think that's all for now....need to get some sleep soon...

Stuff
Okay since one of my sisters is busy in Neverneverland and the other is probably busy being pissed off, I guess I might as well write again. I have taken loads of pics. But looking at them now, I see that they're not that interesting after all. But I have taken them, so might as well just put them up here.
So first I'll put up pictures I took related to that Asian Night thing that happened last week. Has it only been a week since then? Felt like ages ago. Oh yeah I'm actually free this whole week cause it's this sport holiday here. But today's the last day cause I work tomorrow anyway. Sucks. And I've been sick practically this whole week. Oh the irony...
So this is when I was making the agar-agar. Here I am boiling water with fruit juice, sugar and the agar flakes.
And then I put all the cocktail fruits in a huge tray....

And then I pour the liquid agar-agar into the tray with the cocktail fruits! And this is a pic of the agar forming. I made two of these huge trays and we had a whole tray leftover cause nobody had time for dessert. So they put it in the fridge for the children the next day.
So here's me looking like a retard trying on the baju kurong I was going to have on me.

And this is Changis and his wife. Changis is from Iran and teaches Farsi. He's one of my colleagues.

This is one of the performances we had. Well actually the only performance. Cause the rest of us just did like presentations. The woman sang some Indian songs. I don't know if it was in Hindi. And the boy, who's her son played the alto clarinet thing. I have a video of them but I don't know if I can be bothered to put it up. Hmm..India..in East Asia?

These are just random strangers, some of the other people who were there. Parents and teachers I guess. I don't know any of them.

And this is Hathairat and me. Hathairat teaches Thai and she gave a funny presentation on Thailand right before me. She's also my mentor at the school and is really nice.
Now on to other things. So it was Valentine's day last week too wasn't it? Well we didn't really do anything. Jonas and I cooked a bit together. Fried sliced potatoes with steak which was really delicious by the way, but I was so stressed out about the Asian Night thing I didn't have time to make dessert. So I made that a few days after.
These are Molten Chocolate Cakes. And I'd been obsessing about them in months!

Found the recipe on www.joyofbaking.com and I actually splurged on good quality chocolates for these.
They don't look so nice maybe but they're really rich. There's no flour at all. And it's kinda like a rich chocolate cake/muffin/brownie/souffle combined except in the centre of it, you have a nice warm chocolate sauce oozing out of it....yummmI'm thinking about trying out another version of this cake which is even richer and more sinful. Instead of just underbaking the cake for the oozy centre bit, some recipes call for ganache balls. A bit troublesome but might just be worth the effort. :)
One last thing to add before I end. We had a snowstorm yesterday. Again. Except this time we have loads and loads of snow. It was snowing all of yesterday. I had trouble opening the door to take these pics. How annoying. I wish I can just stay indoors forever.

Here's how much snow there was on the front doorstep.

More snow.

And yet more snow.

And the idiot that ploughed the snow decided to pile everything up right in front of our garage of course.
Okay that's all from me. Damn that's a lot of pics. Hope it doesn't take forever to upload!

Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high
Okay I just got home from the East Asian Night at Klostergårdsskolan and I thought I'd blog a bit while I'm on this high from the whole thing. It turned out really really really good!
At first I was nervous as hell and even forgot my baju kurong and baju kebaya at home when this teacher Malin came and fetched me. We drove all the way from Kävlinge to Lund and I was starting to unpack all the food when I realised that I had totally forgotten my clothes. It felt terrible! But thank God Malin was so sweet and nice and offered to drive me back. Shit I felt so bad but she kept saying it was okay.
So everyone was like wow, really nice clothes you have on! And it felt so weird to have a baju kurong on me after all this while. Haha the last time I had it on me was when I got married! It felt a bit rimas too.
And then the presentation bit was so scary. Over a hundred parents, teachers and students were there so I was really nervous but it went really well. Haha I even got everyone to sing and clap along to Siti Nurhaliza's Joget Berhibur song. That was fun, being able to show everyone a bit of myself and my culture. And then I almost had tears in my eyes when this Indian woman came up and sang. It sounded a little weird but it was really touching. I took a video I can upload. In fact I'll upload some pics and stuff later.
Everyone came up to me and was like you did such a good job! It was really interesting to hear about Singapore and the Malay culture! Okay, so maybe they were just being nice but it felt really nice to hear that. And I'm invited to their International Festival in May and stuff. So I'm gonna need all my baju kurong back cause I'll actually be wearing them again! Whee!
Oooh I can't wait to talk to my sisters! Love you girls!

Epok-epok and Agar-agar Okay this might be a long post cause I have so much to say and I haven't blogged in awhile. Urgh! I'm so tired! First I was just really moody and didn't really feel like blogging at all, and now suddenly I have a million things to do. I've been shopping for groceries and cooking and looking up recipes and less than an hour ago I just finished making exactly 124 pieces of epok-epok. Used 2kg flour and almost 1kg minced meat and almost 3 kg potatoes. And all this on top of working 2 jobs.
So this Thursday is the big Asian night thing at Klostergårdsskolan. A few days ago the guy in charge told me that there'll probably be around 60 people there. We had a short meeting again today and it turns out 120 people are coming! Double the amount! Now everyone's afraid there might not be enough food so the school staff went out and bought tons and tons of food and everyone's going to help out and cook there tomorrow night, including the principal. Which is why I had to double the amount of epok-epok I was making.
And I'm also making agar-agar. Probably gonna make something like this. I found this pic and recipe on the net. But I'm prolly gonna make it without the milk. So it'll just be translucent with the cocktail fruits. Now I'm freaking out a bit about the agar-agar because I've never made it before and suddenly I have to make enough for 120 people. Ack! Help!
Oh at first I thought I'd cheat and just use jello powder cause I couldn't find agar-agar powder in Kävlinge. I thought about using gelatin but I just found out that it's made from pigs' bones and crap, so that's really really really gross. So I bought halal jello powder, orange and strawberry flavours. But after the guy said that 120 people were coming, I realised that 2 packets of jello weren't gonna be enough so I went to the ICA supermarket in Lund and the first thing I came across while looking for jello powder is agar-agar powder of course. It was really expensive (almost 10 times the cost of jello) and it's some kinda Japanese brand so I'm really worried. I don't even know how much I need! Here's what it looks like:

I thought I'd skip the real agar-agar and go with jello but of course the supermarket didn't have any jello. So I bought 2 packets of these agar flakes and I'm thinking about making layered agar-agar. So one layer with real agar-agar and the other with jello. It can't be so hard right? Just cook and let set. I hope it's easy. I'm gonna try make one batch? tonight and then Insyallah it'll turn out perfect and I'll have enough to make at least 1-2 more batches tomorrow.
And then I have to prepare some pictures and my presentation on Singapore/Malaysia/ the Malay culture. I'm thinking of doing a powerpoint presentation and starting with a short intro on Singapore and then just talk about the Malay culture then. Not really sure what I'll talk about. I have about 20 minutes. Should I let them listen to a Malay song maybe? Cindai? Something by Nuraniza Idris? Oh I'll be wearing something traditional too. Should i wear my white baju kurong or the pink-purple kebaya? Urgh! I need help! So stressful! And should I fry the epok-epok tomorrow on on Thursday? Thank god I just have 2 hours of lessons on Thursday and maybe this other teacher's gonna fetch me so I don't have to lug everything around on my bicycle and on the train and then on the bus. Oh my God I hope that teacher fetches me!
What else? Oh Jonas is really really nice today. He actually cooked for me! From scratch! It was a kinda pasta bolognese. He's never made that before so I was really impressed. It tasted really good too. I was so hungry I ate everything up and forgot to take a picture and then there was a tiny bit left in the pan so I decided to take a pic of that. Here it is!

Okay I don't know what's wrong with me today. All the pics I take are blurry. Maybe I'm just tired and stressed out. And of course I have problems with my eyes at the same time. My vision is blurred every now and then, I think cause I need to change my contact lenses. I've bought new specs but won't be getting them till Friday. Urgh! And on top of that I have a stye on my left eye. Okay I had to check that up. I didn't know the English word for tembel! It hurts like crazy and I had to put a warm compress on it all of last night but it doesn't seem to hurt so much anymore so hopefully the bloody thing is gone.
Oh and I forgot to mention that Jonas made dessert too! I had to take a pic of that too of course. It was really yummy.

Okay now this feels like a real long-ass post and I still have the agar-agar to make and tomorrows' lessons to plan so I'd better stop here. Ohh one last pic, before I go. Arlin! Girl! I wish you were here! So you can help me with all this! Remember this pic? When you were here a few months ago? And we went to Johannes' and met Aslan's famlily? Johannes' cats are actually Aslan's mom and sister. Oh I should take a pic of them one day.

Okay enough from me. Love you guys! Wish me luck for Thursday!
Lots and lots and lots of love,
Nene

Flowers by Wendy CopeSome men never think of it.You did. You'd come alongAnd say you'd nearly brought me flowersBut something had gone wrong. The shop was closed. Or you had doubts-The sort that minds like oursDream up incessantly. You thought I might not want your flowers. It made me smile and hug you then. Now I can only smile. But,look, the flowers you nearly broughtHave lasted all this while.- Nene & Arlin -

Who says blogs need themes?
I was dragged to a wedding today. Ugh...which was really annoying and depressing. Remember Erna and Erni? Well it was Erni's wedding today....Erna's married now...did I tell you that Nene? she got married to some Aussie guy...and he was there too...along with the whole matsaleh entourage. She has a baby boy too now...but I didn't see him...I think he's just a few months old...mesti cute eh? baby zot :p And don't ask why I know so much....heh....that's another long story...blame Ma and Ba for that. heh.
Anyway...I really dreaded going...I'm still sick btw....my voice sounds worse than a froggy...and to match that I wore a green baju kebaya from 'Anggerik Emas'....damn I miss that store!...remember that place? They had some really nice baju...
Ohh I just got a Hello Kitty colouring book :D And no i'm not trying to relive my childhood. I think colouring might actually be therapeutic....I was discussing it with Pearle the other day...so I thought I should try it...she said she does those dot to dot books sometimes...heheh..she pretends to help her nieces....apparently it does helps her destress. Hm.

ehh...i like the song the chinese one.
going to ask kay-xi to help me download.
oh...so fun! went to yasmyn's party.
i begged mama and the night before her party i cried and cried
and cried. non-stop.
cause i tried everything. tried being extra nice to her.
even woke up early so she didn't have to waste her time to wake me up.
the next morning. i mean.
then i didn't talk at all. cause i wanted to go so i did the silent treatment.
she asked me questions but i just nodded and stuff.
so when ba wanted to send me to school, i smsed her and i told her
i really wanted to go cause this is the last year i'll be seeing yasmyn and
all my friends so she replied...your wish. but you have to show your commitment and study after this and no more parties at all. no matter who it is.
so after sports day i walked all the way home from bedok stadium. then i called her and asked her so i can't sleepover? then she said you can as long as you go for madrasah(religious) class. so i agreed. then on the way home i screamed like crazy until people thought i was mad. hahahahaha. so i packed everything except underwear. i totally forgot. especially when i was having my.....nevermind.
so i went there and like got soooooooo excited and wild.then we settled down at
the resort chalet that yasmyn's dad rented. we watched the 5.30 and 7.00 and 9.00 chinese show. so nice. teresa's going to die on monday! ahh...
forgot what's her name in the chinese show. so they went swimming for like less than half an hour i don't know for what. waste time only. so then after that i had to take care of the things cause i couldn't swim. bleh...so then at night we gossiped and ate and we really were like pigs! we just lay down everywhere.
that was the life! and anyway...the next day we woke up extra early like about 6.30 am. so then we watched hamtaro on kids central cause they didn't have cable. so then they went swimming again. so i had to take care of the things. and this really cute boy was there and he was staring at me...nevermind that. so then we played soccer after that. and later at the chalet again. so then mama called and i had to go. and we didn't bathe! haha nevermind. so then they went to wild wild wet while i had to go for religious class. hmph..but i was happy that at least i got to go. but i was quite disappointed because of my period! if not i could go swim. argh...
then kay-xi and yasmyn went to zara's party while khalisah, nadia, andrea, ria and myrah(yasmyn's sister) went to wild wild wet again. so khali had to go so they went back to the chalet. ria also had to go home. so ria's mum asked them if they wanted a lift to bedok interchange. just as they were about to board the taxi, myrah came and ran to them crying. cause she had to stay in the chalet alone. so poor thing. she's also 3 years younger than us. so nadia and andrea stayed with her until her father came. imagine if nadia and andrea didn't stay with her. beside us there were a lot of ah lians and ah bengs and mats and minahs. so she had to stay inside there alone!!! even us all 7 or 8 of us p6es were scared when we were in there. thank goodness nadia and andrea stayed with her although it wasn't their sister.
poor thing.
